Justin Tucker has become the Ravens top offensive man. He is one of the most reliable kickers in the NFL today with a record of 29 out of 31 field goals. He has achieved 27 consecutive field goals since the September 15th game against the Cleveland Browns.
On Thanksgiving, he completed all five field goal attempts (43, 34, 38, 45 & 48) and one extra point for the 22-20 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. In other words, 16 points came from his right foot. Awesome!
On November 24th, against the New York Jets, he completed all four of his field goal attempts (30, 26, 33 & 53) for the 19-3 victory over the New York Jets. That day it was frigid cold and high winds. His field goals counted for the first 12 points for the Ravens.
On November 10th against the Cincinnati Bengals, he completed a game-winning 46-yard field goal in overtime. With the wind at his back, he kicked that pigskin through the goal to give the Ravens an emotional 20-17 win to end a three-game losing streak.
Tucker has the longest active streak in the NFL, ahead of New England Patriots Stephen Gostkowski (21) and Seattle Seahawks Steven Hariuchka (15). He also holds the 2nd longest streak in franchise history. Matt Stover has the longest with 36 straight field goes during his 2005 and 2006 season.
Justin Tucker has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for November. He was also named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks after connecting on all four field-goal attempts during a 19-3 win over the New York Jets on Sunday. He was 9-for-9 on field goals in November.
“I really don’t even acknowledge when people tell me I’m on some sort of streak.” says Justin Tucker. “I just fell like I’m doing my job.”
It sounds strange to give the a kicker the MVP award but he definitely deserves it. Through-out the Ravens season, their offense has needed all the help it can get with very little running game and fumbles. In most cases, the field goals are the reasons why Ravens won, not touchdowns. Although that may never be acknowledged by Flacco or Harbaugh, Tucker’s ability speaks for itself. The Ravens record is 6-6 and it is not due to touchdowns. He gets my vote!
