Joe Flacco

Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy will not be fined for the below the waist hit that resulted in Joe Flacco’s knee injury, confirms the NFL on Friday. Flacco suffered a sprained MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament). He received the injury in the 4th quarter of the Detroit Lions game on Monday.

The Ravens sent the play to the league office to be reviewed. They feel like the hit was a violation of “The Brady Rule.” This was put in place to protect quarterbacks from being hit low in the pocket while throwing. Levy escaped a fine because Ravens guard A. Q. Shipley pushed Levy toward Flacco on the way to making contact to the quarterback, causing him to fall onto Flacco’s leg.

This man is phenomenal! He has never had a serious injury and has started every game (94) in his six-year career. Way to go!

He is listed as questionable but is expected to play Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Ray Rice

Running back Ray Rice had limited practice on Thursday and Friday due to a thigh injury. He has dealt with a hip injury that caused him to miss time earlier in the season. It is unknown if the two are related.

Outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil did not practice Thursday due to an ankle injury he sustained in the Steelers game. He returned to that game and continued to play on a painful ankle.

It’s kind of an unusual ankle sprain,” Dumervil said. “It’s sort of a bruise/sprain, so that’s why it’s kind of awkward. So you feel things from different areas, but I’m feeling better so I thank God about that.”

Cornerback Lardarius Webb (abs) – limited participant.

Safety Brynden Trawick (ankle) – limited participant.

Trawick, from special teams, has missed the last two games because of an injury.

Tight end Dennis Pitta – hip

He has continued to make progress this week and could possibly return on Sunday to play against the Minnesota Vikings. “I’ve upped my workload a little bit this week just to kind of test it and see where it’s at,” said Pitta. He is not currently on the 53-man roster so he is not required to be listed on the injury report.

The weather forecast calls for a wintry mix snow and sleet on Sunday which could result in slick conditions at M&T Bank Stadium. “The footing on our field is pretty good. If we get ice or something like that, we will have to see,” said Harbaugh.

Defensive end Chris Canty – shoulder – QUESTIONABLE

Canty was able to play in Week 13 against the Steelers. Canty is listed on the injury report as questionable for the game.

Defensive linebacker Elvis Dumervil – ankle – DOUBTFUL

Dumervil did not practice at all this week due to his injury suffered during the Steelers game on Thanksgiving.

“Earlier in the week we felt he was going to make it. It’s not a guy that has to practice to play, so if he goes out there and feels like he can go, he will, if he doesn’t he won’t,” said Harbaugh.

Cornerback Jimmy Smith – concussion – PROBABLE

Smith sustained this concussion on that big hit during the Thanksgiving night Steelers game against running back Le’Veon Bell. Bell also suffered a concussion.

Cornerback Lardarius Webb – abdomen – QUESTIONABLE

As of today, the statuses of Ravens nose tackle Haloti Ngata and starting tight end Dennis Pitta remains undetermined for this Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. Pitta is very unlikely to play. He has been doing individual drills the past three days and remains on the injured reserve-designated to return list. He acknowledges the need for caution while working his way back to his team.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh is not making any decisions on either player until game time. In reference to Pitta, Harbaugh states “I don’t want to say ‘no’ and then he plays. I don’t want to say ‘yes’ and then he doesn’t play and you guys think I’m misleading you somewhere. There’s always a possibility of that.”

Meanwhile, Ngata practiced on a limited basis with a sprained left knee. He is listed as questionable on the injury report, as are middle linebacker Daryl Smith  with a hamstring injury and corner back Lardarius Webb with an abdominal injury.

Wide receivers Marlon Brown with a knee injury and Brandon Stokley with a groin injury are probable.

According to Harbaugh, left offensive guard Kelechi Osemele underwent back surgery on Monday and is expected to recover in three to four months. He is already on injured reserve.
