Due to the poor job offense did this season, everyone thought that Castillo would get the ax. Not true. Juan Castillo will have a new job with the Baltimore Ravens in 2014. After working as the run game coordinator last season, he will now be the new offensive line coach. Castillo worked as the team’s offensive line coach least season, although his title said different.
“The rest of it is a little bit in flux right now,” said Head Coach John Harbaugh.
Part of the reason why the coaching staff has not been finalized yet is because Offensive Coordinator Jim Caldwell has interviewed for head coaching positions with the Detroit Lions, Washington Redskins and Titans. If he accepts a position, it is possible he will bring some of the staff with him.
Castillo has been highly criticized because of the poor run game last season. The Ravens finished the season ranked 30th in the NFL by averaging 83 rushing years per game. The team also finished last in the NFL averaging 3.1 yards per carry.
Harbaugh states that the group has to improve as a whole heading into the new season. “Going forward, our plan now is to improve and get better,” Harbaugh says. “There are a lot of things we didn’t do well as a coaching staff, and that’s why we look at ourselves first. We have to do a better job of putting our players in position to make plays-offense, defense and special teams.”
