Ravens General Manager and Executive Vice President fell ill after the 23-20 overtime loss to the Chicago Bears. According to a report from WNST.net’s Nestor Aparicio, “Newsome had even fainted after being seen sweating profusely on the way down from the press box following the loss.”
Newson left Soldier field in an ambulance to the hospital for tests and further observation. He was not allowed to fly back to Baltimore Sunday.
Ozzie Newsome, a 57 year old former Hall of Fame tight end has been the Ravens’ general manager since 2002.
Coach Harbaugh did not know about Newsome’s health issue until after the game. He received the news after talking with his team and the news media. It was not determined as to the cause of Newsome’s illness. According to Coach Harbaugh “they had to keep him overnight for observation just to make sure.” In my opinion, I think he was having an anxiety attack. That man must have realized that the Ravens lost an important game and it was too much for him to handle. Poor fella.
Less than 24 hours after leaving the hospital, Newsome returned to work Monday afternoon “feeling fine” according to him. Back to the business of football for him.
